If you have a new computer, chances are you’ll already have a trial version of either McAfee or Norton on your new machine. Usually, after your computer starts up, you’ll see an icon on the screen. If you click on it, you most likely will be offered a 30 or 60-day free trial. After the trial period is up, you’ll be asked to purchase the product for a year.
If you need a brand-spanking new version of Norton, you can download the product from the Internet. Naturally, you can purchase the software directly from the Symantec Web site. Frankly, you can also save some money by purchasing the same software on Amazon.com.
Another option is to simply pick it up at a local store, like Staples or Best Buy, or any other computer retailer. With this option, you get the compact disc, and if you ever need to re-install Norton, it’s easier and faster to use the CD. Once you install the CD, your machine will then automatically contact the Norton site for the latest upgrades, etc.
If you have an older computer, and you already have a version of Norton Internet Security, Anti-Virus, etc., make sure you update it. Please note: Regardless of whether you buy it online or from a local store, you only need to buy an upgrade CD. It’s usually less expensive to purchase the upgrade than the whole new version, or worse yet, to purchase a new computer because nasty viruses already ate your old computer!
