Before You Install, You Must Un-install….
If you have a computer with another anti-virus product already installed, then you’re going to need to uninstall the other product before installing Norton. The other anti-virus product may not even let you install Norton because (hopefully) it will think a virus is trying to install itself on your machine.
Here’s how you uninstall another anti-virus product from your machine:
- Go to Start.
- When the Start menu pops up, go to Control Panel and click.
- When the Control Panel Menu pops up, click on Add or Remove Programs.
- (If you have Microsoft Vista or newer, when the Control Panel Menu pops up, click on Programs and Features.)
- When the Add or Remove Programs (or Programs and Features) window pops up, it might take a minute or so for all the programs to be listed under the Currently Installed Programs heading.
- Scroll down the list and find anything that has the name of your current anti-virus product on it.
- Click on the name of that anti-virus program and anything else that says the name of your soon-to-be-old anti-virus product on it.
- Then, click on Change or Remove.
- This might take a few minutes, so please try to sit there patiently and don’t touch anything!
- Once the program(s) has been removed, simply click the X in the upper right corner to close the window.
- Close any other windows or programs you may have open or running.
- Go to Start in the lower left corner of your screen.
- Click on Turn Off Your Computer.
- Click Re-Start, and your computer will shut off and start again by itself.
FYI: You’ll have to re-start or completely shut off your computer for the old anti-virus program to be completely uninstalled. Then you can put the new stuff on!
